During these talks, first USA and then the USSR developed their own nuclear weapons. The atmosphere became tense. In the aftermath of the treaties between Germany, USA and the USSR, New Poland became a buffer zone with US military bases spread around its territory.

Thus begun the global Cold War. The US invested heavily in the development of Poland, especially its military industrial complex. Poland east of the Vistula and San – Socialist Republic of Eastern Poland - was under Russian influence and Warsaw, as its capital, was surrounded with the Warsaw Wall. In 1960, the rebellious Soviet general Kaiser fired a nuclear missile aimed at one of the USSR’s military bases in the former Eastern Poland. Kaiser announced that if USSR wouldn’t fulfill his demands, then had sixteen more of those missiles to fire. During the next seventeen days the USSR withdrew from the occupied part of Poland and Western Ukraine.

Kaiser was proclaimed the Head of State and the era of Totalitarian Poland begun. The USA officially withdrew its army from Polish territories, but secret negotiations continued. They culminated with an unofficial agreement concerning further financial support and technological exchange. In 2011 Germany completed the development of a new bomb. Its real power was a mystery even to the bomb’s creators. One year later, the bomb called Entropy exploded over the English Channel. Whether by accident or part of an intentional action remains a mystery. As a result all of the rockets throughout the Cold War theater locked onto their targets and were fired at the same time. The Third World War became a fact; no one had time to ponder over the nature of that first explosion. Some of the people managed to hide in underground shelters which were a part of vast military complexes. Decades had passed before the first tentative expeditions were sent to the surface.

The year is 2035. About 20 years ago the citizens of The Republic had to search for a shelter from the hell of the Third World War. Yet, only few were fortunate enough to have a place waiting for them in the prepared shelters. With the passage of time the fear of death on the surface has become only an unpleasant memory, however, the seemingly safe hideout has turned out to be a curse which cannot be escaped. It was only a matter of time before somebody would snap, and thus the dream of safety becomes a nightmare prison.

Zombie Driver is presented in a top-down perspective, similar to games such as Grand Theft Auto 2. The player controls one of eight vehicles. Each vehicle behaves in the same fashion with regards to steering, movement, and weapons, but has different properties regarding acceleration, top speed, momentum, manoeuvrability, passenger capacity, and resistance to damage. Vehicles can be outfitted with a variety of weapons or equipment, ranging from machine guns to nitro boost, which are available in the world as pickups. Only one weapon/equipment can be equipped at a time, with new pickups completely replacing the previous weapon/equipment. Ammo capacity varies by weapon but is not affected by the vehicle driven.

The game takes place in varying areas of a single, unnamed city besieged by a zombie outbreak. Zombies are uniformly hostile towards the player and will attack and damage their vehicle using a variety of attacks depending on the specific zombie type. Zombies can be destroyed by driving into them with the player vehicle, by using acquired weaponry, or by using certain limited in-game hazards such as fires or explosives. Running into zombies will slow the vehicle down, the actual amount depends on the ramming power of the vehicle.

The objective of each level is to navigate the vehicle through the confines of the city while completing missions. Missions typically consist of clearing certain areas of zombies or rescuing survivors from specific locations; all zombies in the immediate area must be eliminated, after which the player can stop their vehicle and pick up survivors. Survivors may then be returned to the main safehouse or can remain in the vehicle while the player completes other objectives. The number of survivors, both in one location or throughout the level, may require multiple trips to rescue depending on the vehicle chosen for the mission.

Each level has a number of mandatory objectives, and typically at least one optional objective. Optional objectives yield greater point and money awards for the level if completed, and may also unlock additional weapons or vehicles. Objectives are time-sensitive and can be failed if not completed quickly. Once all required objectives have been completed the player can return to base in order to progress to the next level.

Between each level the player is given the opportunity to purchase upgrades. Upgrades exist for either weapons or vehicles; vehicle upgrades are for speed, armor, and momentum statistics and stay with the vehicle. Weapon upgrades are specific to each weapon type and apply to all copies of that weapon, regardless of vehicle. Gameplay

The player has the ability to research and create weapons with which to personally equip his warriors. This, however, makes each unit relatively expensive. However, when the opponents' warriors die, they leave their equipment on the battlefield, and the player's workers can collect them. These weapons can then be used by the player to equip their own army. Collected weapons have no cost when building a unit utilising that weapon.

There are three types of infantry. Light, Medium, and Heavy. Light infantry (psiloi for the Spartans, Nubian mercenaries for the Egyptians, kara warriors for the Persians) are lightly armored and fast. They are ideal for being ranged units. Medium infantry (spartiate for Sparta, mighty nadsez for Egypt and nobles for Persia), are medium armored and are good as both ranged and melee fighters. Heavy infantry (hoplites for Sparta, Pharaoh's guard for Egypt and Immortals for Persia) are heavily armored and slow, but are deadly when used as melee.

All infantry (excluding heroes) are built either at the barracks or archery range. Before building a unit, the player must choose which items are to be equipped to that unit. There are 8 slots for customization, and a variety of weapons and shields. Most have to be researched before being equipped to the soldiers.

It was ported to the PlayStation Portable and Wii, under the title Prince of Persia: Rival Swords with the Wii version utilizing the motion-sensing functionality of its controller, while the PSP version added exclusive content. A remastered, high-definition, version of The Two Thrones was released on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 on December 21, 2010.

Gameplay

The Two Thrones combines exploration and combat. Both elements make use of the Prince's acrobatic capability and agility. Throughout much of the game, the player must attempt to traverse the palace by running across walls, ascending or descending chasms by jumping back and forth between walls, avoiding traps, climbing structures and jumping from platform to platform, making other types of well-timed leaps, solving puzzles, and using discovered objects to progress.

During combat, many of the same moves vital to the player in other situations can be put to use to overpower enemies. An example is the ability of the Prince to rebound off walls in order to strike enemies decisively. The player generally attacks enemies and blocks using a dagger, although other objects/factors, such as the Dagger of Time and its time-control abilities eventually prove to be critical to victory.

In The Two Thrones, the Prince's acrobatic skills have improved. He is now able to launch himself off walls at 45 degree angles at strategically placed vertical shutters, slide down chutes, and balance on swinging poles, among other things. The designers have also improved the stealth system. Instead of merely being able to do more damage when striking without being seen, The Two Thrones uses a speed-kill system. If the player does not complete the speed kill, the enemy knocks him off and the speed kill fails. The amount of moves or the length of time required depends on how strong the opponents are. The same system is also used in some of the boss battles.

The Prince also develops a split personality, known as the Dark Prince, and this alter-ego constantly bickers with him in his mind about right and wrong. At times, the Prince physically transforms into the Dark Prince. These transformations are scripted and not controlled by the player. During these times, however, the Prince retains control of his body, and the player still has control over the character. For the most part, the Prince's dark side is simply an inner voice.

When controlling the Dark Prince, the player loses the ability to wield a secondary weapon, instead using the "Daggertail", a bladed whip fused to his arm. This allows medium range combat moves and new interactions with the environment. The Dark Prince also constantly loses health as a result of the semi-transformation, with eventual death from the loss.
